David McGuire

iRun to remember.

In 2005 David McGuire suffered a traumatic brain injury and his family was informed he would never walk again. Defying the odds, McGuire is running a marathon a day across Canada to promote Brain Injury Awareness in partnership with BrainTrust Canada.

McGuire experiences short-term memory loss and language challenges, but he can run. David has completed over 5800 km and has run through tremendous physical, mental and environmental barriers.

Some of McGuire’s favourite moments include a police motorbike escort into Halifax and running through downtown Toronto with a crew of supporters. “I ran 1k from Nathan Phillips Square to Union Station,” remembers McGuire. “My niece rode her pink princess bike along with the Toronto Police who sent five officers on bikes to escort us through downtown.” The next day McGuire was invited onto the field at an Argonauts game and was given his very own Argonauts jersey, complete with his name and the number 11.

While running across the country, McGuire takes every opportunity to share the message that brain injury is common – it’s the leading cause of death and disability under the age of 44 -- and is preventable 90% of the time.
