A trans-Canada "Run to Remember" is being officially launched today in Newfoundland, with runner David McGuire eventually due to reach Kelowna.
"We estimate [he'll] be running approximately seven months. It's a big feat and he's just a remarkable guy," says Magda Kapp from Brain Trust Canada.
McGuire was himself affected by brain injury in 2005.
He says he wants to inspire those already suffering and warn others about the risk.
"David McGuire's message is about prevention. Youth are the highest risk for brain injury so we really need to make sure people understand how fragile the brain is and that we really need to protect it at all costs," says Kapp.
The run starts early tomorrow morning.
McGuire is expected in Kelowna sometime in September, before he finishes up in Vancouver.
