Local Run to Remember Raises Awareness of Brain Injury

Local Run to Remember Raises Awareness of Brain Injury

Flyer printings throughout Kelowna BC and more than 20 sponsors including Rogers Communication, Honda Canada and Media Group Kelowna are helping to promote the important event organized by BrainTrust Canada in Kelowna. David McGuire, who was told he would never walk again after suffering from a debilitating brain injury in 2005, will run across Canada to raise money for brain injury awareness.
McGuire began running as part of rehabilitation and completed his first marathon in 2006, one year after his recovery was doubtful.
BrainTrust Canada, a brain injury rehabilitation centre who launched the Run to Remember event, will see David off in the marathon that has him depart April 1 in St. John’s Newfoundland and has him scheduled to end in Victoria, BC in late October. Magda Kapp, director of communications of BrainTrust Canada, is confident that the BC runner, along with promotions and flyer printings about brain injury issues on the part of local Kelowna, BC print sponsors will raise awareness about brain injury.
Kapp told Newswire.ca that youth ages 16-24 are at greatest risk. Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability for people under the age of 45.
The local website www.runtoremember.com accepts online donations from the public to support David in his run. Supporters can also text “BRAIN” to 45678 to donate $5.00. The huge media coverage, aided by flyer and poster printing throughout Kelowna, BC are expected to make the run a moment to remember for months to come by providing in depth coverage of the heroic marathon.
